............tasting notes

Menu

we had a few bottles of wine to savor with the meal

Signature Hot Cheese Soufflé with Crackers
this is a favorite - starting off every meal at the restaurant and a signature dish that goes way back.  my cousin loves it!

Traditional Roasted Thanksgiving Turkey
can't say too much about their meats - since I am a vegetarian
but they always pick the choicest cuts, the most tender meats, this turkey is no exception, cooked to perfection - Gene wishes there was enough for sandwiches tomorrow - but, like any culinary art - portion control is paramount - leave you wanting more - not stingy/ not gluttonous - just the right balance!

with Black Truffle Madeira Gravy
their sauces, gravies, and dressings are the real star of the show

Sausage Apple Bread Stuffing
great - the only question we have is - can we have this again next year?

Potato and Leek Gratine

not smothered in cream - really delicate and delightful!

Sweet Corn and Chili Pudding

Raw Cranberry Orange Relish

accented with orange - exclamation point - to the meal!

Maple Roasted Brussels Sprouts
they make it easy to eat your brussel sprouts.

Green Beans Almandine

 - cooked to perfection - crunchy and tasty

Honey Baked Acorn Squash

Gene thought it was a yam - rich and earthy - one of my favorite veggies - winter squash

Spinach Salad, Pecans, Apple, Caramelized Red Onion Cranberry Vinaigrette
the lettuce is usually picked from their signature garden run by Roberta - a tart cranberry dressing.  Nice way to start or end your meal.  I like to start my meals with a salad.

Dessert Tasting: Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake Apple Strudel Walnut Tart Bourbon-Vanilla Ice Cream Cinnamon Anglaise
!

Fresh Banana Bread, for Tomorrow's Breakfast

Restaurant: Santa Maria

what do you do when you are on vacation - do you eat in the off beaten, small, unknown restaurants - or do you seek out the known destinations - which may not always please the palate - but may give you a sense of being a tourist.

http://www.santamariarestaurant.com/links.htm

I would eat here again - the fried fish sandwich I ate was good and they took the fries back to make them more crispy for me - out door eating would be fantastic here for the ambiance of being out in the middle of the Intracoastal Waterway  - the docks have a replica wooden Galleon spanish ship and pirate ships and charter ships...

Restaurant: La Herencia Cafe

Cuban food - La Herencia Cafe at 4 Aviles St - one of those places you hoipe never goes out of business and never replaces the chef /owner - the best flan - the best capuccino - eaten to date!  we only went for desert - outdoor seating and in - fun street -

Umm...

we met Chef Manny- this is a photo from their website
email

Restaurant: Hurricane Patty's

a very fun place with extensive menu of fish, fried, and other bar food!  good cocktails! family and friend get together for large dinner parties...we had rawed oysters which were gritty - some of them- and not very tasting of the sea - that is because they were farmed - but I would suggest the fried fish platters for a place like this anyway for future reference.

The Giant Food Industry behind "Organic"

Howard, Philip H. 2009. Organic Industry StructureMedia-N: Journal of the New Media Caucus

I'm disenchanted by truth, media, and real food - organic meets large scale farming -  "the lessor evil" ?
- yes, but I try to shop local and small whenever possible and my wallet permits.  For me, this is a large contribution to aid in the pursuit of the American Dream and stay healthy at the same time - a win win!
